Crew changes and repatriation at the Port of Durban

Convenient, time-saving, choice

Crew changes are performed in all major ports in South Africa. Crew changes are performed in Durban either once vessels are in port, alongside taking bunkers or when they are engaged in cargo operations or at Off Port Limits using a launch. Durban can also do crew changes via helicopter, but this is weather dependent and the helicopter can only carry 750 kg per trip.

Documentation and administration

Details of the crew changes must be forwarded prior to the vessel's arrival to the appointed agent. These details are required to process the "OK TO BOARDS" and letters of guarantee for on - signing crew members. All off-signing crew must have firm and valid onward travel details. All crew members on the vessel's crew list must be in possession of a valid passport and a valid seaman's book. According to the South African Immigration laws, port agents are no longer allowed to arrange visa's on behalf of crew members, passengers, superintendents and visitors. These persons have to arrange for SA visas in their home country prior to arriving in South Africa as they do not form part of the official vessel crew list.

Repatriation & courier services

Full repatriation facilities are available - hotels, travel agents etc. Airline tickets must be in Agents' hands prior to crew signing off. Off Port Limits repatriation is possible.

An efficient courier service is employed to ensure that all crew joining or leaving a vessel are safely transported from the vessel to the airport and visa versa. They are also fully au fait with all customs and immigration requirements covering the signing on/off procedures for all personnel. Our courier service offers a 24 hours service, 365 days a year.

Accommodation

There are also a wide variety of hotels to choose from, all in close proximity to the Port of Durban, making for an effective vessel - hotel - airport traveling chain. Durban's hotels range from 3 to 5 star status and all are close to transport and shopping facilities.
